The Paycheck Plan Workbook: Plan Every Paycheck for a Whole Year

The Paycheck Plan Workbook: Plan Every Paycheck for a Whole Year

A budget that lives in your head is a wish. A budget that lives on one page per paycheck is a plan. The Paycheck Plan Workbook is the whole Paycheck Plan method in one printable PDF: six short chapters that explain it, four worked examples that show it, and twelve months of pages so you never have to hunt for a blank form.

The reason I built it around paychecks is timing. Money does not arrive on the first of the month, and bills do not wait politely. When you assign each bill to the last paycheck that lands before its due date, the awkward week before payday stops being a surprise.

What is inside

  • 6 one page chapters: why plan by paycheck, the four steps, the bill calendar, sinking funds, variable spending and the buffer, and monthly review with debt and savings
  • 4 worked examples: a filled-in paycheck sheet, bill calendar, sinking fund tracker and monthly review
  • 2 setup pages: your paydays and bills, then your sinking funds and goals
  • For each of 12 months: a Bill Calendar, two Paycheck Budget Sheets, a Sinking Fund Tracker and a Monthly Review
  • 2 spare paycheck sheets for months with a third payday, plus a notes page
  • 78 printable pages in total

Three pages from the workbook

The zero check. Every Paycheck Budget Sheet ends with four lines: total to plan, minus bills, minus variable spending, minus savings and debt. In the worked example, $1,200.00 minus $928.00 minus $210.00 minus $62.00 leaves $0.00. If the last line is not zero, you adjust before spending, not after.

The sinking fund tracker. The example tracks six funds with yearly goals. Car repairs has a $600.00 goal and grows by $22.00 in the month; the vet fund starts the month at $85.00, adds $25.00, pays a $40.00 flea treatment and ends at $70.00. The page shows you exactly where each fund stands, so a surprise vet bill is just a withdrawal.

The monthly review. The review compares planned with actual in eight categories. In the example, groceries came in $11.55 over because of a party and fun money was $12.00 over for movie nights, while household spending came in $12.70 under. The page ends with a single question: what one change will you make next month?

How to use it

  1. Read the six chapters. They are one page each.
  2. Fill in the two setup pages with your paydays, bills and goals.
  3. Print the month you are in. Fill in the calendar, then a paycheck sheet on each payday.
  4. At month end, do the ten minute review and carry your fund balances forward.

You do not need a special app or spreadsheet. A pen, a printer and ten minutes on payday are enough.
